Team play

The game of the team players.

The team play is the classic original form of Icestock. A high level of tactical understanding and team spirit is required.

4 players – 6 turns – 5 rounds

A team consists of four players. The playmaker – he/she decides on an offensive or defensive game strategy, the two offensive players and an all-rounder. The playing field is 3m x 6m. The aim is to achieve the best position to the puck. If the puck leaves the target area due to a shot, it is placed back in the center position. The team that does not have the best position in relation to the puck always needs to play next. Once all eight players have made their attempt, the “turn/Kehre” is over. Each Icestock counts as one point. Maximum number of points in a turn: 1+1+1+1= 4 points. A game consists of six turns. The team with more points receives two game points. In case of a draw, each team receives one point.

Highlights World and European Championships

The women’s and men’s team competitions have been a battle between the three major Icestock nations of Germany, Austria and Italy for decades. At the last World Championships in Ritten (ITA) in 2022, Germany beat Austria in the men’s final. Austria took revenge by winning the gold medal at the 2024 European Championships in Waldkraiburg. In the women’s event, the Italian team was victorious at both the last World and European Championships.

IFI-Icestock Europe Cup

National Championships are held in winter and summer. The four best teams of the best Icestock nations qualify for the IFI-Icestock Europe Cup  held in November each year. The IFI-Icestock  Europea Cup for club teams has been held for men since 1961. So far, only teams from Germany or Austria have won the title. EV Rottendorf/Seiwald from Austria is the most successful team with five titles. The women’s Europe Cup has been held since 2012.

IFI-Stocksport Champions League

The IFI-Stocksport Champions League for club teams was introduced in 2017. The women were added to the program in 2023. So far, there have only been Austrian victories in both the men’s and women’s competitions. After Jimmy Wien twice (2017 and 2018) and St. Willibald (2019), ESV Union Ladler Wang (AUT) completed the Champions League hat-trick with victories in 2021, 2023 and 2024. In the women’s competition, SU Stocksport St. Peter am Wimberg (AUT) won in 2023 and ESV Union Vornholz (AUT) in 2024.
