Vision Icestock 2030

The Olympics are not unknown territory for Icestock. Icestock was on the program as a demonstration event at the Winter Olympics in Garmisch-Partenkirchen 1936 (GER) and Innsbruck 1964 (AUT).

On 12 July 2021, the IFI was recognised as an international federation by the IOC Executive Board in Tokyo. Participation in the 2030 Winter Games in France is our goal and the vision of the global Icestock community.

Global sport

Icestock is played on all four continents as a women’s and men’s sport in individual, team and mixed competitions. There are currently 46 associations that are members of the IFI. The leading nations are Germany, Austria, Italy and Switzerland. Nations such as India, Australia, Brazil, France and Canada are constantly developing. African countries such as Gabon, Kenya and Namibia are also making incredible efforts to promote the sport.

Short, exciting event formats

In all three disciplines, the Icestocksport offers attractive and exciting competition formats for spectators and the media.

1-on-1 duels in a knockout format in the target competition, final matches in team play in a final four format and distance competitions over 280 meters give spectators goosebumps.

At the World and European Championships, medals are awarded in the categories of youth U16, youth U19, juniors U23, women, men and team mixed.

Existing infrastructure

Icestocksport can be played in any ice arena. In winter, ice times in ice rinks are shared with sports such as ice hockey, curling, short track and figure skating. In many countries, there is an excellent infrastructure of ice rinks, which makes it possible to practice the sport without long journeys and high costs.

Sport for body and mind

For the team play, each individual position (playmaker, offensive players, all-rounder) requires specialists. In complex game situations, team spirit and a high degree of tactical understanding are required. In games, just one failed attempt out of a total of 120 can often mean the difference between winning and losing.

Precision and a high ability to concentrate are what distinguish a perfect target player. Within 45 minutes, 48 attempts are made. Every single attempt counts, every single centimetre decides between success and failure.

Perfectly placing the icestock and maximising its acceleration requires not only good technique and coordination, but above all speed and strength. The length of a normal ice stadium is not sufficient for distance-players. On natural ice, distances of up to 300 meters are possible.

Retro trend for young and old

With its simple rules, Icestock is suitable for young and old. Our sport is very attractive to young people because physical fitness at the entry level is of secondary importance. It quickly boosts self-confidence and contributes to a positive sporting experience. At Christmas markets and ice rinks, Icestocksport is a retro trend and popular in many places.

The popularity of Icestocksport is reflected in the high density of clubs in the Alpine countries. In countries such as Austria, the Austrian Stocksport Association (BÖE) has the third-highest club density after football and tennis.

Clean and sustainable

Doping and drugs have no place in our sport. Our equipment can be used for years. All international competitions are held in existing arenas and shared with other sports.

Part of Special Olympics

In countries like Austria, Stocksport is an integral part of the Special Olympics program. The last big highlights were the World Summer Games in Berlin (GER) in June 2023, as well as the National Winter Games 2024 in Styria (AUT). The competitions are held on asphalt in the disciplines of target  competition and in the unified team game.
