Target competition

The competition for all-rounders.

The target competition is an individual competition. Precision and concentration are particularly important. The player has to solve various game situations under a time limit, such as placing the icestock close to the puck or pushing the opponent’s icestock out of the playing field.

Within around 45 minutes, 48 attempts must be made. Every single attempt counts towards the score. The target competition is played in four rounds with six attempts each. A total of 60 points can be achieved in each round (= maximum 240 points).

Round 1: Six attempts are made at the middle target rings, in which the Icestock is to be placed as close as possible to the center cross. The rings count from outside to inside: 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 points.

Round 2: In this round, various situations based on the team play are given. In the six attempts, the aim is to move the target Icestock – set up in the circles – out of the target area. The player’s Icestock should remain in the target area. You receive 10 points if your own Icestock remains in the target area. If both Icestock’s leave the target field, 5 points are awarded; if both Icestock’s remain in the target field, 2 points are awarded.

Round 3: The third round is similar to the first round, with the scoring rings marked on the left and right at the back of the target field. You have three attempts on the left and three attempts on the right side. The rings count from the outside to the inside: 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 points.

Round 4: The fourth round is called “Combine”. In the first attempts, the aim is to hit the target Icestock in such a way that the player’s Icestock comes to a stop as close as possible to the center cross. In the last attempts, the aim is to get the target Icestock out of the target rings and into the back rings. The rings count 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 points from the outside to the inside.

New format in the target competition

At this year’s World Championships, the head-to-head format will be played in the target competition for the first time at a major international event. The game is played in knockout mode, with several rounds of four attempts per round. The attempts are taken alternately by both athletes. The first player to reach 7 game points wins the duel and advances to the next round.
