A Milestone for International Development
With the official publication of the rules of the International Federation of Icestocksport (IFI) by the Iranian Icestocksport Federation, this fledgling federation is sending a strong signal regarding the structural and sporting development of Icestocksport in Iran. This step marks an important milestone on the path towards the international integration and professionalisation of the sport in the Asian region.
The IFI acts as the global governing body for Icestocksport and is responsible for standardising the rules and organising international competitions. Since its recognition by the IOC in 2021, it has pursued the goal of establishing the sport worldwide and, in the long term, making it an Olympic sport. This is based on the international rulebooks – in particular the “International Icestocksport Rules (IER)” and the “International Rules (ISpO)”, which cover all disciplines of the sport.
Uniform standards for a growing sport
By adopting and publishing these rulebooks, the Iranian federation is creating a binding framework for training, competition and education within its own country. Among other things, the regulations define:
· the technical requirements for sports equipment,
· the structure and procedures of competitions,
· as well as the duties of referees and officials.
This standardisation is essential for organising national competitions at an internationally comparable level and enabling athletes to participate in international tournaments.
A boost for development in Asia
Icestocksport has become increasingly globalised in recent years and is no longer confined to traditional core nations such as Germany, Austria or Italy. New nations are also investing more heavily in building structures and developing young talent. The publication of the IFI rules in Iran is therefore not only an organisational step, but also a sign of the sport’s growing importance in Asia.
The implementation of international standards will make it easier for the Iranian federation to actively participate in continental and global competitions and, in the long term, to host its own events.
