Stampfl and Anzinger winner of Europe-Cup

Stampfl remains "Miss Europe-Cup"

Šentjanž pri Dravogradu in Slovenia was the venue for this year’s distance Europe Cup. For the first time the Head-to-Head format was used for the finals.

Stampfl remains “Miss Europe-Cup” – 2nd and 3rd place goes to Italy

Stampfl was in a class of her own today. She already achieved the day’s longest distance in the preliminary round with 97.60 meters in her second attempt. In the head-to-head final, she beat Italian Judith Ganterer. After Amstetten (AUT) 2019, Pocking (GER) 2021 and Wolfau (AUT) 2023, this is her fourth EC-title in a row. In third place, another Italien Sophia Albenberger. She defeats Petra Winkler (AUT) in the third place playoff. The Austrians also win the team competition ahead of Germany and Italy.

Gold for Anzinger – new head-to-head format sparks debate

In the men’s singles, Germany’s Alexander Anzinger celebrates his first Europe-Cup title. He defeated his fellow countryman Peter Rottmoser in the final. Rottmoser threw the first attempt, but then failed the second attempt. Anzinger finally won with a throw of 92.61 m.

Michael Späth, who was still in the lead after the preliminary round, only managed to achieve 4th place despite achieving the best distance of the day with 105.16 m. Anzinger stopped the reigning European champion in the semi-final. Rottmoser stopped Austria’s youngster Peter Neubauer in the second semi-final. Späth then also lost the small final for 3rd place to the Austrian Peter Neubauer.

Mixed title goes to Germany

Michael Späth also won a gold medal together with Elisabeth Reiter. They beat the Austrians Lisa-Marie Stampfl and Peter Neubauer in the mixed final. The second German duo, Annalena Leitner and Peter Rottmoser, came in second. They won the bronze medal with a lead of over 17 meters ahead of Evelyn Perhab and Markus Weichinger (AUT).

Lisa-Marie Stampfl:

“All good things come in fours. Today, from the first attempt, everything was just right. Playing a Head-to-Head final in knockout mode was also something new for me. The new format is really exciting for the spectators and also for us athletes. Of course, you have to be careful to find the right balance between attack and technique. I’m also happy for the two young Italians, both of them have a very good technique.”
