It is with great sadness that we say farewell to Mathias Roock, who passed away far too soon at the age of just 60.
For many years, Mathias served as an A-level referee for the International Federation of Icestocksport. With great expertise, consistency and reliability, he supported and shaped our sport. Throughout, he was always a loyal ally of the German Eisstock Association and, in particular, the IFI.
It was once said of Max Frisch after his death:
“Max had a talent for friendship.”
Today, we would like to apply this beautiful thought to Mathias, for Mathias, too, had a talent for friendship.
In him, we have lost not only a dedicated and distinguished referee and official, but above all a person on whom one could rely. For many he was a long-standing companion, for others a close confidant, and for all of us a friend of our ice stock sport.
We owe Mathias a debt of immense gratitude for his decades of dedication, his loyalty and his devotion. His legacy and his personality will remain unforgettable within our ice stock family.
Another quote expresses what we would like to convey to his family during these difficult times:
“To hear the voice of friendship in times of need is the best thing that can happen to the heart.”
Perhaps, as one big icestock family, we can be a little of that voice of friendship for his loved ones and thereby give back some of what Mathias gave us during his lifetime.
We are deeply saddened to have lost a friend, but at the same time grateful and proud that Mathias was one of us.
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family and all his loved ones.
