Successful duo Peiting & Peißenberg
Framework, venues and schedule
The 2025 European Cup marked the official start of the season for curling club teams on ice and was jointly organised by the International Federation Icestocksport (IFI) and the host club EC Peiting.
The women’s preliminary round took place in the Peiting ice rink, while the men played their preliminary round in the Peißenberg ‘flatbuy Arena’ ice rink. On Sunday (the day of the finals), both the women’s and men’s finals were held together again in Peiting.
Teams from six nations were represented in total – an international field of participants.
The double venue – Peißenberg as the preliminary round location for the men and Peiting as the centre for the women and finals – gave the tournament a special organisational dimension. The organiser responsible emphasised that Peißenberg was deliberately included as an important location in order to draw attention to the ice rink there as well.
Results – Women & Men
The European Cup featured a high-calibre field – many teams with experience from national and international competitions fought intense battles.
Women
- Champion: SV Gumpersdorf (GER) took the title.
- Silver went to ESV Neustift–Innermanzing (AUT).
- Bronze was shared by defending champions ESV Union Vornholz (AUSTRIA) and the host club TSV Peiting (GER).
The women’s final was particularly exciting: Gumpersdorf’s victory was hard-fought, with only a minimal difference – a final with constant back and forth and not for the faint-hearted. The last shot decided the outcome. The women from Neustift-Innermanzing had an impressive preliminary round and played their way safely into the final.
Men
- Champion: EC Altwasser Windorf (GER) – the reigning German champions were crowned European Cup winners.
- Silver: ESV Union Ladler Wang (AUT) – undefeated until the final, Wang lost clearly to Windorf in the final.
- Bronze: TSV Hartpenning (GER) and ESV Luttach (ITA) shared third place.
The men’s final round was also exciting: Wang had some dominant performances in the preliminary round and the knockout rounds, with clear victories in the round of 16 and quarter-finals. It was only in the final that the team failed to show its usual strong form and was unable to counter Windorf’s powerful play.
Windorf impressed with clear and confident play, while Wang, despite a strong preliminary round and impressive form, was unable to continue its performance in the final.
Impressions & highlights
The European Cup once again proved to be a high-class international tournament with teams from several countries – the level of play was correspondingly high.
The organisation across two locations – Peißenberg for the men’s preliminary round and Peiting for the women’s and final rounds – worked very well. Particular mention should be made of the contribution made by Peißenberg and the clubs active there, which played an ‘outstanding role’ in making the tournament possible.
For the organising club, TSV Peiting, the Cup was an opportunity to once again prove itself as a reliable venue for major curling tournaments.
For the teams from Austria, the European Cup was a strong indication of their potential – both the women’s and men’s teams achieved podium places, even though they narrowly missed out on the title.
Significance of the venues & role of Peißenberg
The combination of the two venues, Peiting and Peißenberg, has shown several advantages:
-
Proximity and infrastructure:
Thanks to the proximity of the venues and good infrastructure (ice rinks, organisation), the European Cup was able to be spread smoothly across two locations – without any loss of quality for spectators or teams.
-
Strengthening the region:
Peißenberg, with its flatbuy Arena, was deliberately included – this not only strengthens the region’s importance in curling, but also provides a stage for local clubs and athletes.
-
Logistical flexibility:
The division between two rinks made it possible to plan women’s and men’s competitions in parallel and more efficiently – which is important with an international field of participants, but also very costly.
In this context, Peißenberg fulfilled its role as an ‘outstanding contributor’ and proved that smaller locations are perfectly suited to high-calibre competitions with commitment and good preparation.
Conclusion
The 2025 European Cup in Peiting and Peißenberg was a very successful weekend for international Icestock-Sport. With strong performances, exciting duels and successful organisation across two venues, the tournament offered the best conditions for high sporting quality. Peißenberg in particular deserves recognition for its contribution to the event – both for providing the hall and for its successful involvement in the organisation.
For the TSV Peiting club and the region, the Cup was further confirmation that they can compete at international level – and for the participants, it was an opportunity to assess their position for the new season.
