‘Greater precision for the professionals of tomorrow: the new student stick is here’
Dear Member Nations,
The International Federation Icestocksport (IFI) would like to officially inform you today about the new regulations for student sticks. The aim of these adjustments is to enable a more cost-effective, yet high-quality version of the student stick. In order to achieve this common goal, existing specifications have been revised, certain tolerances relaxed and new material options approved.
Binding specifications for student sticks (valid from 1 October 2025):
• Weight of type E stick body: 2,700 g to 3,000 g
• For distance sports, the weight of the Type E pole body remains 2,730-2,780 g
• Outer diameter: Measured so that the outsole does not protrude
• Shaft: Must fit easily into the shaft holder
• Intermediate plate and ring: Choice of material is optional – wood (ZP) or aluminium permitted
• Ring: Can be made of aluminium as well as stainless steel
• Ring height: Should correspond approximately to the current student version
• Registration number: Manufacturer number and ‘JKB’
• Tolerance dimensions: Are suspended for student poles
Our requirement remains clear: The student pole must be robust, durable and free of defects within the manufacturer’s warranty.
The free IFI student stick seals must still be used. They serve to ensure quality and guarantee that only tested and certified models are put into circulation.
This regulation will come into force on 1 October 2025 and will initially apply for a period of two years.
We expressly reserve the right to make subsequent adjustments or withdrawals.
We are convinced that this new regulation will provide noticeable financial relief for youth development while ensuring a high level of quality.
I would like to express my special thanks to all those involved for their constructive cooperation and joint commitment to our youth.
With sporting regards
Christian Lindner
President of the International Federation of Icestocksport
