In memory of Volker Bernardi

Mourning the loss of a valued member of the Executive Board

Dear Icestocksport family,

It is with heavy hearts that we share very sad news with you today:

Our esteemed Presidium member Volker Bernardi, Vice President for Legal Affairs and Olympic Relations of the IFI, passed away on 17 August 2025 after a short and serious illness, at the age of 56.

The grief within our Icestocksport community, united under the umbrella of the International Federation Icestocksport, is deep and painful.

Volker was not only a passionate advocate for Icestocksport worldwide but also a true visionary of our sport. As a strong supporter of the Olympic Movement, he worked tirelessly and with great dedication to advance the recognition of Icestocksport by the International Olympic Committee – an achievement that was ultimately realized thanks to his commitment.

Beyond our federation, Volker also played leading roles in numerous national and international sports organizations. With his expertise and innovative spirit, he contributed significantly to the development of many sports and was a pioneer in driving forward new ideas and progress.

In these difficult times, our thoughts are especially with his family, who now bear the greatest sorrow. We, the Icestocksport athletes, stand by you in this time of grief and hope to give back some of what Volker gave to all of us during his lifetime.

It fills us with sadness to have lost a friend – but also with pride and gratitude that he was part of us.
