The Olympic Committee recognises the Federation Paraguay de Ice Stock Sport as Paraguay’s official Winter Olympic sport
Asunción, Paraguay – In a historic decision, the President of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, Camilo Pérez López Moreira, has officially recognised the Federation Paraguay de Ice Stock Sport as the country’s Olympic winter sport. This move grants the long-established sport of ‘Ice Stock Sport’ a special status within the Paraguayan sporting landscape.
This recognition honours the federation’s long-standing efforts to establish a winter sport in a country without natural winter conditions. For years, Paraguayan athletes have been training on specially adapted rinks and regularly taking part in international competitions.
“This decision is a milestone for our sport and for all athletes who believe in the development of winter sports in Paraguay,” explained Federation President Mercedes Mongelós. The recognition opens up new opportunities for promoting young talent, international cooperation and preparation for future Olympic competitions.
Although the sport is traditionally played on ice, there are also summer and tarmac variants, which have been practised successfully in Paraguay for years.
Sports experts see the decision as a strong signal for Paraguayan Icestock sport. The recognition underlines that Olympic winter sports can be successfully developed even in countries without a distinct winter season.
With this new status, the Federation hopes to inspire even more young people to take up the sport and to establish Paraguay on the international winter sports stage in the long term.
