IOC Session in Tokyo approves full recognition of IFI

PRESS Release (20/07/2021)

IOC Session in Tokyo approves full recognition of IFI

The International Federation Icestocksport (IFI) is honoured to announce that the IOC Session in Tokyo today has approved the full recognition of IFI. The vote of the Session was given unanimously for the six International Federations, one of them being the International Federation Icestocksport.

The IOC Executive Board had granted provisional recognition by the IOC to IFI in June 2018. The IOC Session acknowledged by their vote today the significant development of IFI in the years since the provisional recognition was achieved.

Together with the approval of the full recognition of IFI, the IOC Session voted on the full recognition of five additional IFs:

  • International Cheerleading Union (ICU) – provisionally recognised in 2016

  • International Federation of Muaythai Associations (IFMA) – provisionally recognised in 2016

  • International Sambo Federation (FIAS) – provisionally recognised in 2018

  • World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) – provisionally recognised in 2018

  • World Lacrosse (WL) – provisionally recognised in 2018

“IFI is very happy and proud on the decision of the IOC Session, which did acknowledge a strong and significant positive development of our Federation”, commented IFI President Christian Lindner.

“IFI is determined to continue walking on the path to fulfil the IOC criteria to a great extent and to develop our Winter Sport Federation on the fields of Visibility, Youth Appeal and Sports Presentation to get ready for the Olympic Winter Sports programme. We would like to thank the IOC members very much for their unanimous support. President Thomas Bach and the Executive Board, the staff of the Sports Department for their congratulations and the expression of their wishes to continue the successful cooperation to further develop Icestocksport”.
